Brown University Professor of Political Science and Associate Director of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Melvin Rogers, PhD, is the author of the award-winning book, The Darkened Light of Faith: Race, Democracy, and Freedom in African American Political Thought. The book is a powerful new account of what a group of nineteenth and twentieth-century African American activists, intellectuals and artists can teach us about democracy.

Dr. Rogers will be in conversation with Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations Timothy Wyman McCarty, PhD. Dr. Rogers and Dr. McCarty will set the stage for a broad discussion about the profound ways African Americans have reimagined democracy and the invaluable lessons we can learn about how to grapple with racial injustice and make democracy work.
