Danelectro Silvertone U1 Bronze Late '50s played by Berend Rombouts | Demo

The collaboration between Danelectro and Silvertone brought instruments to the market that were affordable but still offered a unique and recognizable sound. Many musicians of that era, and even later, started their careers with a Silvertone guitar. This ushered in a new era in which electric guitars became more accessible to a wider audience.

Silvertone guitars regularly change specifications over the years, and recognizing the exact model is not an easy matter. The copy we managed to obtain has a striking combination of features. What we see here is a single cut model with a single lipstick pickup in the middle position, where models with the pickup in the neck position were also released. The Bronze finish is accompanied by the signature vinyl tape on the side of the body.

The maple neck has a scale length of 632 mm and has the so-called 'coke bottle' headstock that was used until 1959 before the switch to the 'dolphin' headstock. We also find a rosewood fingerboard with 21 frets and an aluminum nut. The steel bridge has a rosewood saddle, and the guitar has all the original parts such as the electronics and tuners. As can be seen in the photos, the guitar unfortunately goes through life without a cover plate on the back of the body.
