🎙️Live Office Hours - The One Where I Unpack:

➡️ The three SUPER-NOT-COOL messages we unintentionally send to students when we focus on “right” and “wrong” outcomes—even if we never actually say those words.

➡️ How and why the “right vs wrong” mindset leads to frustration, inefficiency, and feelings of failure—for both students AND teachers.

➡️ Practical tips galore to shift the focus to curiosity, exploration, and sustainable growth (aka: *actual learning*).

Just in Case You Were Wondering:

Here are the three things we communicate to students when our pedagogy is coloured by a “right vs wrong” mindset. (Even if we never actually say “right” or “wrong” out loud):

1️⃣ You don’t know your voice.
You don’t know how you want your voice to sound.
You’re not capable of deciding if you sound the way you want to sound.
*I*, your teacher, am the final judge of whether or not you are singing well.

2️⃣ Sounds have moral imperatives.
The sounds you make—and the coordinations behind them—are either “right” or “wrong.”

3️⃣ Perfection is the goal.
Not only is 100% coordination possible, but it’s preferable.
You should expect to achieve it 100% of the time.
Anything less = failure.

Which: oops. 🙃
