Face Mask Penalty

There are two, well actually three scenarios when it comes to calling a face mask penalty.

The signal that identifies this penalty is when the ref simulates grabbing the mask with his fist and pulls downward.

The first is if it's incidental, or unintentional, where a player's hand touches the mask, but didn't mean to, and pulls away immediately, it's still considered a 5 yard penalty.

If however, per the rules, a player twists, pulls or turns the mask, it is considered a personal foul and is a 15 yard penalty.

Finally, if it's not called at all, which happens on occasion. and which happens with other penalties as well.
This happens if anyone and everyone else but the official saw it, and since it's a judgement call and not a reviewable play, it goes uncalled and doesn't count.
