Описание к видео How Much of Your Paycheck Should You Save

I’m about to answer how much of your paycheck you should save, in this video. I’ll even answer how to save a lot of money. Be careful though... I get pretty passionate in this one.

The most important things to keep in mind are: there’s no one simple answer to this question. Everyone is in a different situation so I break all those situations down. I make several generalizations and I even exaggerate certain things in this video but it’s to paint a clear picture of what to expect.

So:

We have to split this up between pay ranges:

First: $15k-$30k a year

This typically represents younger people or those who are in more entry level jobs; and typically these guys have a huge saving advantage and can 1. Save a lot of money and 2. Keep great saving habits if they start while they’re within this pay range.

These folks typically live with someone else (this is generalization I was talking about). This gives an advantage because it removes the responsibility of living alone and paying for everything and invites more room to SAVE.

If you’re in this range I’d urge you to save as much as you can and aim for 40%-50% of each paycheck.

Second: $31k-$54k a year

These folks are a little more established but this is the average range that most Americans make which means there’s people at the beginning and ending of their careers here. You have new high school grads, college grads, trade school, etc. but then you also have people who’ve been working for the past 20 years but their pay caps out at a certain number.

So with this range you can add debt, children and insurance to the mix. (Generalizing, this isn’t always the case).

That said, a lot of these folks are living with a roommate, with a spouse, or alone. If they’re alone I’d recommend 25-30% in terms of saving. I’d recommend saving or at least aiming to save 40%.

Also I’d recommend cleaning up debt if you have any. Check our my Dave Ramsey Baby steps video time get more info on that!

Third and fourth: $55k-$81k and $82k and up
These guys tend to have a huge chip on their shoulders and are more susceptible to lifestyle inflation than any of the other categories.

Want to save a lot of money in this category? Simply keep a lifestyle that is below your means on a consistent basis for YEARS. That’s how you do that. Aim to save 30% or more if you’re in this pay range.
