Comprehensive coverage covers your vehicle for natural disasters. A clear example would be any damage your car could get from hail. This type of coverage typically has a deductible that you pay.

Collision coverage covers your vehicle, regardless of who is at fault when your vehicle has collided with another vehicle or object. This type of coverage also has a deductible that you will need to pay. An example of when you’d need this type of coverage is when you suffer from a fender bender.

Comprehensive and collision coverages are both usually required when you finance your car. If you have a car loan, the lien holder will request that you have these two types of coverage in your car insurance policy.
