Forbidden Planet has a very special place in my heart, and it has its rightful place in the pantheon of classic SF films that paved the way for other classics like Star Wars, Star Trek, The Expanse, and pretty much any space-based SF story past the 1950s. It's also REALLY problematic in terms of characters and plot, but admitting this allows to see the movie for what it is: a product of the 1950s that, while influential and groundbreaking, needs to be admired for its achievements but also critiqued for its faults.
