If you're serious about logic, sooner or later you'll need to use proof by induction, also known as mathematical induction. This is a proof technique used all the time in mathematics. First and foremost, proof by induction is a way of showing that all numbers have a certain property. But we can also use it to prove results about logic. For example, we often want to show that all sentences have a certain property.

We're using mathematical induction here: I'm not talking about the kind of knowledge by induction that we often talk about in philosophy when we're thinking about knowledge of the future or knowledge of unobserved events or anything like that.
