Climbing an ABANDONED Bridge to Nowhere in Sydney, Australia. The Maldon to Dombarton rail bridge.

Описание к видео Climbing an ABANDONED Bridge to Nowhere in Sydney, Australia. The Maldon to Dombarton rail bridge.

The "Bridge to Nowhwere" sits across the Nepean River, located just outside Picton, New South Wales. It was part of a proposed 34.9 km railway line that would link Maldon to Dombarton, providing access for coal to reach a then new export loader at Port Kembla.

Construction started in December 1983 and was due to be completed in 1986. Nearly 2 years behind schedule and under a change of Government the project was axed in June 1988 after the timeline and costs blew out.

The progress made cost tax payers over $30 million and has sat abandoned for over 35 years.

Subsequent Governments have evaluated the costs to complete the line in 2009/2014, however some estimates put the cost at close to $700 million and deemed it financially infeasible. In 2024 with the new Western Sydney Airport under construction there are calls for the Port Kembla to Macarthur rail link to be investigated again and finish the Maldon to Dombarton Freight Rail-link Corridor.

For now, the bridge is left to time.

Note: This video is a vlog of my experience visiting the site, I do not advise anyone to access the bridge. As with all abandoned buildings and infrastructure there is risk of injury and/or death. The site is unmaintained and has been exposed to the weather for over 35 years.

Thanks for watching.
