There is a strong subtext of hope lost in these events with Elijah.
In popular literature, Edgar Allen Poe wrote of the raven rap, rap, rapping on his window. The raven enters and perches on a bust of Pallas, a young warrior in Greek literature— one who first kills many enemy soldiers, creating a hope, but is then killed: hope lost. The character in Poe’s poem, “The Raven” has lost Lenore, who will return “nevermore.”
