Om Swami says that the panchang (almanac) is the Vedic calendar and according to him, he feels that the word calendar is from the Sanskrit word-kalantar. He says, there was a time in this country when nothing was done without looking at the panchang. Om Swami says that he personally never saw the panchang for anything material, like starting a new business, teaming with a new business partner and things like that. For, a business will be good if it has its strengths, and for retail to be profitable the location has to be good or else it will not run anyways. But, he consulted panchang whenever he did any sadhana as sadhana is a limb of Veda. He says, astrology should be more like a guide and not a master. It is ok to consult if anyone wishes to, but it would be plain ignorance to depend on astrology for all the decisions in one’s life. It is then like giving more importance to astrology than one’s own intelligence, thought processes, education or even God and his grace. He says that astrology is a Vedang (a limb of Veda) and astrology was studied along with all the other parts of Veda. It was not studied separately just to know someone’s future. He says that there is no relation or importance of wearing precious or semi-precious stones to influence planets though he himself had advised its use when he started practicing astrology in the beginning. But the moment he felt that there was no truth in it, he abstained from doing so. The day he realized that astrology does not have the power to change someone’s life he stopped looking at people’s horoscopes and his comments on it, for he feels that life should be based on truth only.
