Why do we find it so difficult to reach out for help at the moment we need it most?

Niels takes you on a journey of big wave surfing, panic attacks and explains how to reach out for help when your brain is being hijacked by fear or other emotions.

In this heartfelt talk, Niels explains how panic works in the brain, shows how to drift with the flow of intense emotions instead of fighting them, and demonstrates how sending a Purple Heart ? might be the best way to help yourself if you’re frozen by fear. Niels is a surfing neuropsychologist with a mission to add more compassion to the world.

Having dealt with his own debilitating inner waves of fear for years, he now helps his clients befriend theirs.

In his spare time, Niels likes chasing waves around the world, climbing the Himalayas or participating in rallies or surviving in the Scandinavian wilderness. He is always in for an adrenaline-infused adventure for a good cause.

Niels is trained as both a neuroscientist & neuropsychologist, is a certified Breathwork coach, has over 5 years of experience with meditation and yoga, and has participated in silent Vipassana and tantra retreats. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
