Met het einde van de koude oorlog kwam er ook een einde aan veel Amerikaanse bases in Europa. Naast Bitburg in Duitsland werd het 32nd TFS op Camp New Amsterdam op 1 juli 1994 teruggetrokken. Ik was een van de Nederlandse erewachten en mocht met trots de Stars & Stripes dragen. Een mooie gekoesterde herinnering. Helaas maakte deze ceremonie een einde aan een unieke periode van 40 jaar op Camp New Amsterdam.

With the end to the cold war, there also came an end to a lot of American Bases in Europe. Next to Bitburg in Germany, the 32nd TFS at Camp New Amsterdam was inactivated at July 1st 1994. I was one of the Dutch Honor Guards, proud to carry the Stars & Stripes. A beautifully cherished memory.
Unfortunately, this ceremony brought an end to a unique 40-year period at Camp New Amsterdam.
