Camas Teachers on Strike: Day 4

Approximately 600 teachers., students, and community supporters gathered Thursday at Crown Park in Camas to address the current strike and to hear from various speakers about educational issues and experiences.

Lacamas Magazine interviewed Joe Farland, a Camas High School English teacher, his wife, Eleanor Cosgrove Farland, and their three children, Lucy, Noah, and Jesse.

Three topics are still unresolved: 1) smaller class sizes; 2) equity in music, library and PE funding across CSD schools; and 3) higher wages, specifically a Cost Of Living Allowance (COLA) to combat inflation.

The CEA has asked for an 8.9 percent COLA, and CSD’s final offer is a 5.7 percent COLA.
