In today’s Maldives vlog, I take you deep into the authentic island life of Huraa – far from the expensive resorts and tourist traps. We begin the day with a traditional Maldivian breakfast: fresh tuna, tomatoes, onions, chapati, and potatoes – all caught and prepared the same day on this peaceful local island. The food in the Maldives is unbelievably fresh, and the simplicity of island life reflects the beautiful values of Islam.
After breakfast, I visited the local shop I’ve come to love, where I bought 5 Kinder Eggs as a gift for the children at the local mosque. These sweet kids have been incredibly welcoming throughout my time here, and I wanted to give back to them in a meaningful way.
Next, I walked to a small Maldivian barbershop to get a haircut. I was genuinely curious how much a local haircut would cost on a Maldives island. The walk was peaceful and made me reflect on how calming and spiritually refreshing island life can be—away from the distractions of modern luxury, it’s easy to feel closer to Allah.
The barber was warm and kind, gave me a perfect haircut and a relaxing head massage—all for just $3. I gave him a $15 tip, not only because he deserved it, but because his hospitality reminded me why I love meeting local people when traveling as a Muslim.
After reuniting with my family, we took bikes and cycled through the island village, passing lakes, coconut trees, and fishing spots. We then visited Bikini Beach, a rare public beach on the local islands where we could glimpse the distant resorts—what most people think the Maldives is all about. But today’s video shows something deeper: the real Maldives, filled with culture, kindness, and community.
We jumped into the sea and played with local kids who were laughing, doing tricks, and jumping over me in the water—it was a highlight of the vlog and something you won’t see in most Maldives travel videos. We then had halal pepperoni pizza from a local spot, and watched a man cut fresh coconuts down from the trees.
Before sunset, we went to Maghrib prayer at the mosque and handed out the Kinder Eggs to the kids. Their excitement was heartwarming—they were talking about YouTube, smiling for the camera, and enjoying the little surprise.
Finally, back at the hotel, we were blessed with a surprise anniversary cake from the kind hotel staff, baked fresh just for us. We ended the day by the sea, relaxing, joking around, and feeling incredibly grateful.
This is the Maldives you don’t see on Instagram. This is the real, Muslim Maldives.
