Monopoly (SNES) Playthrough

Описание к видео Monopoly (SNES) Playthrough

A playthrough of Parker Brothers' 1992 board game adaptation for the Super Nintendo, Monopoly.

This video shows two separate games. I begin with a 4-player game against Billy Bob, Mary Anne, and Elizabeth. The second, beginning at 45:00, is an 8-player game in which I utterly demolish the CPU players.

I was a huge fan of the NES version of Monopoly. It was a fantastic example of how bring something as seemingly mundane as a table-top board game to a video game console.

The SNES game followed a year later, and it's quite similar to its NES counterpart. You get a large selection of computer players (each defined by his or her own behavioral quirks), support for up to eight players, and the presentation gets the 16-bit facelift that you'd expect. I don't think the graphics and sound have nearly the charm of the NES game, but the animated game pieces, the voice samples, and the old-timey piano music do jazz things up nicely. The interface lifted from the NES game is good, too - managing property and deals is straightfoward and intuitive - and everything moves along at a satisfyingly brisk pace.

The only complaint I have about this version of Monopoly is that it can't quite hit the impossibly high bar set by the NES version. Still, this is an excellent rendition of the game and it's one that I have many good memories of playing. I picked it up sometime in the late 90s once Majesco had rereleased it as a budget title, and that was $20 well spent.

I'll take this over Ubisoft's Monopoly games any day.
