Women Of The Leesburg Stockade | GPB Documentaries

Описание к видео Women Of The Leesburg Stockade | GPB Documentaries

In 1963 in Americus, Ga., girls between the ages of 12 and 14 were jailed in a one room stockade with no running water for 45 days for their roles in Civil Rights Movement protests. After they were released, the women didn't speak of their ordeal for over 50 years. In the years since they have been sharing their story, questions have arisen about just how many young people were illegally jailed during what is described in some documents as “The Americus Insurrection.”
