The Essequibo is one of South America’s mightiest rivers. Its 1000-kilometre course dissects Guyana from its source in the Acarai Mountains all the way to the Atlantic coast. This 3-part series follows film-makers Rainer Bergomaz and Marion Pöllmann on the first expedition to uncover the Essequibo’s fabled source – an adventure that takes them through stunning landscapes and allows them to witness astonishing wildlife along the way. The journey is fraught with danger and challenges: the weather, the river’s impassable rapids, unknown terrain, illness, and wild animals combine for an unmissable rollercoaster ride.
