I typed the description of the previous video an hour before starting this one. That’s procrastinating at its finest.
Anyway, I have another arrangement. Again, no sheets. At this point, I am still slow, but I am able to sight read at a better level. However, making the sheets would take forever, so to keep me sane I decided to not do that and continued learning random pieces I found on musescore.
A break down:
This arrangement is quite simple. The ideas are straight forward(for me at least). This took quite a bit of takes because I decided to get this out of the way as soon as possible. In terms of difficulty, it would be in my top 5.
The first part is straight forward. It’s the main theme that every Parasyte fan will recognize. I don’t about what you guys think about this part, but I feel like I kind of stole it from Thieshter( I feel like I have stolen and modified some sections from other people’s arrangements without even realizing it.)
When the main theme plays again, I went pretty typical using octaves and chords. I added a some base movement to keep it interesting. This can be heard at 0:22.
The “verse” was pretty straight forward. Instead of using midi or sheets, I learnt this part by ear. Ok so quick story, I was originally gonna make this based off of someone else’s arrangement but adding my own modifications, but I decided to just do the usual. This is song is really simple. The patterns are not complex and the chords are as straight forward as a pop song’s. Nothing much to say for this part. For the buildup to the second “chorus” I used this descending B octave that you hear at 1:14.
For the second “chorus”, it was basically the first one but more powerful and had more range. Nothing to special here. On the second repetition, I decided to spice it up. I tried to make a contrast from the big, full-sounding octaves and chords to the more urgent and precise section which had runs and arpeggios at a moderate pace at 1:34. This might he weird, but this was the hardest part of the arrangement for me. As someone who is self-taught. I didn’t really think of practicing scales until I tried to play a simple C Major scale. The reality check was a stab. Now, I can play a good amount of scales with enough practicing.
For the second “verse”, there are two things worth mentioning. The rest at 2:30 is suppose to mimic the cut in the original song. The next thing is at 2:31. I changed the rhythm to add variety. This is suppose to remind the listener of the second repetition of the second “chorus”. For the second buildup, I used a really fast arpeggio at 2:50.
And finally the final “chorus”. I decided to play the melody with no octaves and kept it simple. I decided to do this to replicate the song. To me, it’s funny how despite all the effects and sounds in the song, you can still hear the single note piano melody. The second repetition is another part that I really enjoyed. At 3:09. I decided to use more base movement. Like Animenz once said: “Sometimes less is really more”. So instead of chords and octaves, just octaves but with a different rhythm. I came up with this idea while sitting on the toilet listening to the original OST. I thought it was really cool and during practice sessions I was head banging while playing(ofc you dont see it cuz camera angle)
3:25 and onwards. The final part. It’s like the first one but a different key. The ending of this song was a bit abrupt for me, so I obviously slowed down on the last part.
And thats it. For an arrangement that seemed rushed, it turned out better than I expected. Thanks for reading this description. Its what every anipianist does now right? Lol
