The Peterson models 6700B and 6710B construction and demolition material grinders are the largest in Peterson's popular line of horizontal grinders. Powered by the Caterpillar C27 (or optional C32 diesel engine), the 6700B and 6710B are designed for high production construction and demolition grinding. With a feed opening of 50 x 66 inches, they can reduce large bulky C&D materials into smaller pieces for more efficient transportation or land filling.

Both the 6700B and 6710B utilize Peterson's high production Adaptive Control System and a fully adjustable feed system that can be optimized for a wide range of materials. The control panel features a large LCD display that provides the operator with self-diagnostics for faulty sensors, open circuits, and other information needed to efficiently operate the unit. System pressure transducers simplify set up and provide complete engine and system parameters.

Peterson has solved the problems common to slow speed shredders with a medium speed adaptation of the popular 6700B and 6710B wood waste grinders. Slow speed shredders are well suited for reducing elastic materials such as tires. They are also suited for primary reduction in a low volume C&D sorting and processing operation. However the disadvantage of the slow speed shredders is the low throughput when high volume reduction is required with bulky C&D materials. The high throughput of the Peterson 6700B and 6710B makes them a good choice for reducing C&D materials with minimum brick and cement content. Large steel plates, bars and rods should also be presorted and removed from the feedstock.

A rotor tip speed of 6,000--7,000 feet per minute (1829--2134 meter/minute) combined with Peterson's three stage grinding system, upturning pinned rotor and air adjustable impact release system are some of the key elements to the high production and low operating costs in this application. A heavy duty conveyor belt is used to extend belt life.

Various grate options can be used depending on the size and amount of metal in the C&D material.

The optional air adjustable floating anvil release system can be set to readily open with low air pressure. Higher release pressure settings are used for additional reduction with less contaminated materials. The low pressure release setting creates a floating anvil which readily opens to release contaminates. It also reduces the power and fuel required to 0.1--0.2 gal/ton (0.38--0.76 liter/ton). This is similar to the fuel consumption for slow speed shredders in this type of material.
