Hi, my name is Amenda Ng. I'm a Settlement Counsellor here at Immigration Services Guelph-Wellington in Guelph, Ontario.

This is one of many settlement offices that are located across the province. We offer free, confidential counselling and referral assistance for newcomers in many languages.

Moving to a new country can be quite overwhelming but rest assured that help is available to get you settled.

For example, we can help you to apply for a social insurance number, an Ontario health insurance card, and a driver's license.

We can also give you information about housing and schools for your children and help you to apply for government programs and benefits.

Many of our clients face a challenge with the English language. At a settlement office like ours you can have your English language proficiency assessed.

And you can enroll in English classes that are offered by the Ontario government free-of-charge.

It's also important to get in touch with a professional organization that relates to your area of expertise.

For example, Guelph is a major agricultural centre and we often connect internationally educated agrologists with the Ontario Institute of Agrologists.

They can help you to find a career in the agricultural sector with a number of bridge training programs. They include English language training that's specific to agriculture, mentoring and networking.

They can also help you prepare for any licenses or certification exams you may need to take.

So as you can see, there are lots of services to help you settle into a new life in Canada and here in the province of Ontario.
