Описание к видео 'A Story Of Survival' | Hear Us Out | A retelling of an older LGBTQ+ person's real-life story

Hear Us Out presents
'A Story Of Survival'
An older LGBTQ+ person's real-life story told verbatim by LGBTQ+ performer Chris.

'Hear Us Out' celebrates all aspects of older LGBTQ+ people's lives and may contain themes of a sensitive nature.

Since 2019, New Writing South's 'Hear Us Out' project has been collecting the stories of older LGBTQ+ people living in the South East of England. Working with a community collective of LGBTQ+ writers and performers, some of these stories will be performed verbatim and others will be used to inspire new writing performances. 'Hear Us Out' will culminate in November with a series of online events.

In the run up to 'Hear Us Out', we are sharing some of the verbatim retellings of the older LGBTQ+ people's stories we have collected. These verbatim retellings are performed using a technique we have called the 'Hear Us Out' technique. Using this technique, the performer wears headphones, listens to the original recording of the real-life story (spoken by the person whose story it is) and attempts to perform the story exactly as they hear it. There is no attempt to copy accents or any dialects but the performer does attempt to relay all of the pauses, sighs, laughter, etc. from the original storyteller's telling of the story.

Due to the current circumstances, all of our performers have been rehearsing with the project's Artistic Director, Dinos Aristidou, over the phone or on Zoom and have captured these performances on their own equipment at home.

Subscribe to our channel and take a look at our 'Hear Us Out' Playlist to listen to more verbatim stories and new writing performances as we head towards 'Hear Us Out' in November.
