This way, one can more thoroughly evaluate for the presence of foreign bodies (e.g., string, needles, toothpicks, etc.), abscesses, neoplasia, granulomas, etc. When in doubt, the veterinary clinician must be prepared to intubate (or in severe cases, perform an emergency tracheostomy) if the airway is compromised.
