When we pour cold water on the barrel, the steam inside the drum condenses, and the pressure inside drops dramatically. However, there is still atmospheric pressure outside, which is now greater than the pressure inside. The atmospheric pressure from outside crushes the drum, and the drum implodes! This is a dramatic demonstration of the power of atmospheric pressure, using nothing more than a 55-gallon drum and basic principles of physics. Remember, don't try this at home!
