Описание к видео Doctor explains HEMORRHOIDS (aka piles) | Causes, symptoms, treatment & prevention

In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key things you need to know about haemorrhoids (aka piles) including what they are, causes, symptoms, treatment and more.

Piles (haemorrhoids) are lumps inside and around your bottom (anus). They often get better on their own after a few days. There are things you can do to treat and prevent piles.

What are hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are swollen, enlarged veins that form inside and outside of your anus and rectum. They can be painful and uncomfortable and cause rectal bleeding. Hemorrhoids are also called piles. We’re all born with hemorrhoids, but at baseline, they don’t bother us. It’s only when they become swollen and enlarged that they produce irritating symptoms.

What are the symptoms of hemorrhoids?

Internal hemorrhoids rarely cause pain (and typically can’t be felt) unless they prolapse. Many people with internal hemorrhoids don’t know they have them because they don’t have symptoms.

If you have symptoms of internal hemorrhoids, you might see blood on toilet paper, in your stool or in the toilet bowl. These are signs of rectal bleeding.

Signs of external hemorrhoids include:

Itchy anus.
Hard lumps near your anus that feel sore or tender.
Pain or ache in your anus, especially when you sit.
Rectal bleeding.
Prolapsed hemorrhoids can be painful and uncomfortable. You may be able to feel them bulging outside of your anus and gently push them back inside.

Write down your symptoms including when they started, when they happen and how often you have them.
Write down anything that makes them worse or better.
Tell your doctor if you are worried about cancer.
Tell them if you have any family history of cancer.
Take a friend or relative along for support - they could also ask questions and take notes to help you remember what the doctor says.
Ask the doctor to explain anything you don’t understand.
Ask the doctor to write things down for you if you think it might help.
