The Yumen Pass (玉門關) —— Hangzhou Youth Choir

Описание к видео The Yumen Pass (玉門關) —— Hangzhou Youth Choir

Yumen Pass is an a cappella choral piece composed by Jin Chengzhi in 2010. After a decade of refinement and several revisions, it vividly portrays the brutal warfare on the Tang Dynasty frontier and the desolate aftermath, richly imbued with the artistic expressiveness of frontier works.

The piece is divided into eight sections: Yellow Sands, March Begins, Enemy Attack, Decisive Battle, Beyond the White Clouds, Sunrise, Reinforcements, and No Spring Breeze. With a strong sense of narrative and emotional impact, it depicts a Tang Dynasty frontier battle, from the march to encountering the enemy, strategic ambush, decisive combat, and sacrifice for the nation. Behind the scenes of flashing swords and bloody battles lies the grim reality that only three out of ten soldiers return from the frontier. 'Yumen Pass' is both an anthem to the frontier soldiers and an elegy for the souls lost on the battlefield.
