Larry Bird's Triumphant Return from Injury (NBA Showtime Story)

May 11, 1991 - As though a debilitating back injury wasn't bad enough, Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird went ahead and broke his face during Game 5 of his team's first round series against the Indiana Pacers. After missing Game 1 of the second round, Bird returned to score 16 points while propelling his team to a 109-103 victory, another chapter in the legend of Larry.

Bird's heroics weren't enough to carry his team indefinitely, however, as the Celtics eventually bowed out to the Detroit Pistons in six games.

As an aside, for those wondering, the 1990-91 season served as Pat Riley's head coaching sabbatical, wedged right in-between his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. He spent that season, instead, with NBC as an in-studio host and analyst.
