Dialing In Espresso on the Decent Espresso DE1 (Approach, Tips, + Ramblings)

Описание к видео Dialing In Espresso on the Decent Espresso DE1 (Approach, Tips, + Ramblings)

This video is for new owners of the DE1 or anyone interested in the capabilities of the DE1! In addition to the typical variables we associate with dialing espresso, the DE1 allows us to have a visual display of them plotted out on a graph. This makes dialing in espresso methodical and extremely easy to diagnose the exact variable to change (grind finer, adjust temp, etc.). In this video, I showcase dialing in a brand new bag of beans and my overall process from start to finish.

This video is sort of a deep dive into what the DE1 is capable of doing. I might make more videos related to the advanced capabilities but there are many who are more knowledgeable than me. I just try things and figure out if they taste good. The specific tasting notes and subtleties come next for me!

Here is my approach to dialing in espresso on the Decent DE1
1. Pick a profile you'd like to start off with and briefly understand what it's doing by looking at the parameters/graphs/steps
2. Pull a shot and look at the pressure to determine which direction to adjust the grind (too coarse = no pressure, too fine = too much pressure)
3. Continue to adjust grind until you mimic the parameters/graph in the profile
4. Adjust temperature to influence overall extraction/taste
5. Once you taste, see if you need to adjust dose or extraction ratio (ex: light roasts at 1:3)
6. Fine-tune individual steps/parameters to your desire

Additional Notes:
Good data doesn't always mean good taste! Trust your taste buds. Access to the data allows you to understand what to do to make things taste the way you want them to. The DE1 is the only machine that lets you have granular control over brewing variables in a programmable and repeatable form.
