(Classic) Mage solo - LBRS - Quartermaster Zigris (Farm Hands of Power solo if you are super rich !)

My first Classic solo !

Quartermaster Zigris is a boss deep in LBRS that drops Hands of Power, which is a Mage best in slot until BWL comes out.

Unfortunately this item has a droprate of around 8% and is in high demand for all casters, so I wondered if I could solo the run.

This run is not worth the time and gold I put into it, but I just couldn't let go because I knew it was possible. Many times I came close, many times I changed strategy and approach, and finally it all came together in this run.

It's actually possible to fight Zigris alone by killing all the adds before him, but the problem with that it that he deals a TON of damage (of course, he's a boss), has annoying CC abilities (root + stun) and above all, has a heal. You probably never realized it and I sure never did, but he has a ~2k heal available, which makes soloing him the traditional way impossible with my gear.

You can kite him quite easily, but at some point your DPS is just not enough to counter his healing and the fight becomes a stalemate. I tried facetanking, using Armor potions, Magic Dust, Target Dummies, brute force with Fire Spec, nothing came close to killing him.

So I resorted to letting his friends kill him instead, which is the strat that ended up working.I mean, when the Gnomish Mind Control Cap doesn't backfire and turns YOU into a pet of course.

The hardest part of the run is pulling Zigris just right so that he gets all the aggro and you don't. Placement is also super important to avoid being destroyed once Ice Block runs out. One thing to note is that I forgot to remove the auto-cast on his abilities which was a big mistake, since his AoE bomb can stun all the adds for 5s, ending your run. Fortunately he got CCed so much he didn't have time to cast anything. Finally, a Limited Invulnerability potion + some explosions sealed the deal. I'm actually really lucky to not have died here since the Summoners can teleport you back in melee range at any time.
