Igor Pudło — Igor Boxx. A sound architect from Wrocław
Igor Pudło, better known under his stage name Igor Boxx is one of the most intriguing figures in contemporary Polish electronic music. A producer, composer, and sampling artist, he has long been associated with Wrocław and its vibrant artistic scene. Over the years he has earned international recognition - first as half of the acclaimed duo Skalpel and later as a solo artist - thanks to his unique ability to blend modern electronic music, jazz, sampling, and urban nostalgia, always rooted in the history and atmosphere of the places that shaped him.
Igor Pudło was born and raised in Wrocław. This city, with its complex history and unique aura, became a lifelong inspiration for him — both artistically and emotionally. In the 1990s, together with his friend Marcin Cichy, he co-founded Skalpel a project that married their fascination with jazz records, their love of hip-hop, and a passion for sampling and electronic sound design. Skalpel quickly gained recognition for their distinctive sound: a warm, dusty blend of double bass, brass sections, the crackle of old vinyl, and contemporary beats and production.
The breakthrough came in 2003, when Skalpel signed with the prestigious British label Ninja Tune, known for promoting cutting-edge electronic and hip-hop artists. Their self-titled debut album Skalpel (2004), followed by Konfusion (2005), received rave reviews worldwide and opened the doors of international clubs and festival stages for the Polish duo. They became a synonym of modern, nostalgic Polish jazz, reimagined for the 21st century.
In the 2010s, Igor Pudło launched his solo career as Igor Boxx*. His first solo album, *Breslau (2010), immediately caught critics’ attention. It was a dark, concept-driven work inspired by the tragic events of the Siege of Wrocław in 1945, when the city, still called Breslau, was almost completely destroyed during the final months of World War II. Breslau revealed him as an artist deeply sensitive to memory, place, and history, capable of transforming them into a gripping sonic narrative full of tension, sorrow, and hope. The album was highly acclaimed both in Poland and abroad, with British media calling it a bold attempt to confront the past through music.
Beyond his studio work, Igor Pudło is also an active DJ and music promoter. He has performed at major festivals in Poland and abroad, presenting both DJ sets and live acts on stages from London to Tokyo. His sets are just as atmospheric and surprising as his recordings - blending jazz, electronica, hip-hop, breakbeat, and experimental music into a coherent emotional journey.
Another milestone in his career was the reunion of Skalpel and the release of two more albums: Transit (2014) and Highlight (2020). Together with Marcin Cichy, he proved that even after years they could still create fresh, original music true to their unique aesthetic.
Igor Pudło remains one of the most important figures in modern Polish electronic music, consistently building his unique sound and artistic identity. He never follows trends — he sets his own direction and shows how Polish jazz and electronic music can evolve. His work invites listeners on a journey through sound, memory, and imagination — always in sync with the rhythm of the city that shaped him and to which he remains faithful.
