Howdy. Today we will dive into some very relevant Old World History, looking at the oldest photographs of Jaffa, in modern day Tel Aviv. Historically, Jaffa was home to the main port that supplied Jerusalem, and much of the Old City of Jerusalem, including Solomon’s Temple, was said to be constructed using materials which arrived through the Port of Jaffa.

Incredibly, the images of Jaffa we will look at today, dated from circa 1860 through 1930, depict an extremely well-built city that appears to be ancient in origin, and yet as we dive into the current narrative history of Jaffa we are told the city was completely destroyed numerous times, including in 1799 by Napoleon. However, by the first photographs in the 19th century, Jaffa appears to have been miraculously rebuilt.
