Apo Whang-od is a revered Filipino traditional tattoo artist. Born in 1917 in Buscalan, Kalinga province, she is highly skilled in hand-tapped tattoos using thorns and bamboo sticks. Whang-od belongs to the Butbut tribe and continues to practice the ancient art of tattooing. Her intricate designs, inspired by nature and cultural mythology, are created using soot-based ink and a tapping technique.

People from all over the world visit her remote village to receive a tattoo from her. Whang-od's artistry bridges cultures and promotes indigenous traditions. Her contributions to preserving Kalinga tattooing and promoting cultural awareness have earned her international recognition. Apo Whang-od's legacy inspires and captivates people globally, emphasizing the importance of honoring indigenous heritage.
