Invited Lecture / 2022 Annual Meeting of Iran Minimally Invasive Surgical Society

Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer globally both in terms of incidence and cancer-related mortality. It affects both men and women. Recently there has been an increasing trend of developing colorectal cancer in younger people. Screening for colorectal cancer with colonoscopy can save lives as it provides an opportunity to discover polyps and early cancer at a stage when they can be cured. Large polyps and early cancer are managed in most settings with colonic resection. With the recent development of therapeutic endoscopic techniques, a subset of patients with large colorectal polyps or early colon cancer can be managed endoscopically.
Professor Maher A. Abbas delivered this talk virtually at the Annual Meeting of Iran Minimally Invasive Surgical Society. The various aspects of endoscopic resection of colorectal neoplasms were discussed.
