Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of age, race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. These rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, right to freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination. They are regarded as requiring empathy and the rule of law. They impose an obligation on persons to respect the human rights of others. These encompass a wide variety of rights such as the right to a fair trial, protection against enslavement, prohibition of genocide, free speech or a right to education. Human rights constitute one of the main planks of law curriculum. It is imperative that law schools and colleges should have this subject in their programs to be assigned to the faculty with an interest in the course.

Prof #BCNirmal had been Head and Dean of Law School Banaras Hindu University and Vice Chancellor at National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi. His specialization is in international law and human rights. He had also been the Vice-President of Indian Society of International Law and of All India Law Teachers Congress. He was also a member of governing body of Indian Law Institute. He has over 41 years of teaching experience and has authored four books and numerous articles concerning law.
