1950 Eagle Scout Collection Unboxing From West Virginia

When we talk about the merit badge program in the Boy Scouts of America one of the key tenets is that it exposes you to future careers. This collection from an Eagle Scout that grew up in West Virginia shows how that goal can play out. As a teenager in the 1940s this bright young man earned Aviation and Airplane Structure merit badge. After attending college at Duke University, he went on to a long career in Aviation. As a math whiz he became the CFO of a major airline. I spoke to his widow about his long career. She shared with me many stories of board room drama and travels around the world.

The collector in me appreciated that his 1940s merit badge sash straddles three different eras of manufacturing of these patches. He has some pre-War Type Cs, the fine twills of WWII rationing and the post war Type E that we call khaki narrow crimped.

If you are interested in Scouting memorabilia or potentially have a Boy Scout collection of your own that needs to be sold and recycled back into Scouting please visit my website http://www.scoutpatchcollector.com. Many aging Boy Scouts have no one in their family interested in their memorabilia. I purchase and recycle the entire collection to get it back into Scouting so that their treasured items can be enjoyed by the next generation of collectors.
