VW Polo: Crankshaft Pulley: How to remove (16v, 1.4) (#124)

This video shows how I removed the crankshaft with a home-made tool.

The crankshaft pulley is very tight. Even for a small car it could be 80Nm or over 100Nm.
For this car it is specified as 90Nm, and then another 90° turn.

You need to remove the drivebelt first. Please watch my other video on how to remove the drivebelt..

You need a 12-point socket to remove the crankshaft bolt. I used a 1/2" socket and an extension bar.

The crankshaft pulley has to be held tightly. I made a tool from some steel pieces from old exhaust fittings. Two bolts on the top of the tool were put into the holes of the crankshaft pulley and
the lower end of the tool was put into a steel pipe (from a broken thigh trainer!).

With the tool in place, you can loosen the crankshaft bolt and remove the pulley.

Please note: you can now put the crankshaft bolt back with a washer in order to hold the crankshaft toothed pulley!

Hope this help someone!
