Jaeger and Margie ( a little Geno too) check-in: Meeting a new person in the training room and what to do if Jaeger growls at the unknown human. LISTEN to what I say in regards to advocating for him vs putting him in the position to growl. But here we practice the growl (because it is inevitable that at some point that he will growl at people because WE missed something, and this is what the owners need to do. You cannot let the dog get away with it ever without addressing it with "quit" because then they are just reinforcing the behavior and it will persist. They need to go into a "quit" event, which is positive punishment, and I have discussed this with them and they understand the concept - the end result to get remorse from him. THEN carry-on with a reconcile. Do not leave him feeling poopy. Ideally, the human does the advocating, so 98% of the time he never feels like he needs to growl. And, overtime, by having both of these experiences happen, he just stops growling at strangers (and that in itself opens up him to be more comfortable with strangers in the house down the road).This dog is VERY capable of learning to be okay with strangers.
