Today I want to practise what I preach and get out of my comfort zone and try something different. As always, I’m heading out to where the tourists don’t go to bring you a real slice of Bangkok daily life over the river in Thonburi but today, I’l be eating something different!

Today I’m joined again by my good friend ‪@hungrytoexplore‬ as we head to Wongwian Yai Market, which in my opinion is one of the best seafood markets in Bangkok, so Joe can try some pickled crab (ปูดอง) for the first time.

We then headed over to Wongwian Yai Railway station to a Lao restaurant so that I can try and get over my irrational fear of pla ra (ปลาร้า) or in this case, being Lao, Padaek (ปลาแดก).


Without a doubt, the thing I enjoy about visiting these local areas in Bangkok is the connections I make along the way. We met some unbelievably friendly people today from all over and their hospitality and warmth will not be forgotten. There really is no other way to connect with a culture than to get out and try the local food!
