The Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci, is probably the most famous painting in the world. Since it's in the public domain, this painting has appeared in numerous advertising campaigns, movies, books, and magazines.

I thought I would challenge myself and try to copy a portion of it. The original painting measures 30" x 20 7/8" and is on display in the Louvre Museum in Paris. ‪@MuseeLouvre‬

One of the challenges of this painting is finding a reproduction that has accurate color. There are many photographs of the Mona Lisa online, but they all vary in color. So I'm positive that if you were to compare my painting with the original, the colors wouldn't be entirely accurate.

🎨 ART SUPPLIES
I used a 5x7 Aquabord for this painting. The clay surface is absorbent so it makes the oil paint dry faster. It has a subtle texture that I like, If you want an very smooth surface then you want to try the Claybord panels from Ampersand (see below).

WATER MIXABLE OILS
These work just like regular oil paints but they contain an emulsifier that allows you to thin them with water. You can also clean your brushes and tools with just soap and water. I like the Cobra brand of water mixable oils from Royal Talens. There's a professional line and they also have a student grade line which has tubes with orange caps. The professional line has black caps.
