Syed Refaat Ahmed was sworn in as Bangladesh's new Chief Justice on Sunday, following the resignation of his predecessor, Obaidul Hassan. Hassan, a loyalist of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stepped down amid demands from protesters. Ahmed, the senior-most high court judge, was appointed by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, becoming the 25th Chief Justice of Bangladesh.
