John Smith was a Firefighter who retired from the West Midlands Fire Service. John was the type of guy who would do anything for you and always had a smile on his face. He served in Smethwick and West Bromwich Fire Brigade and when the boundaries changed in 1966 he was in Warley Fire Brigade. More changes to the boundaries in 1974 and the West Midland Fire Service was formed from eight brigades. At that time John was serving at Oldbury Fire Station which is situated on the island of junction 2 of the M5 motorway. John continued to serve at Oldbury until his retirement. John was born in 1942 and passed away in 2015.
