Guava Jelly Recipe

Sweater Weather Episode 7 - Guava Jelly

Recipe

500 g ripe guavas

260 g sugar

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 drop pink food colour (optional)

In a pot add the guavas roughly chopped

Add enough water to cover all the guavas. Boil this for 15 to 20 minutes till the guavas are completely tender

Mash the guavas using a masher and let this mixture cool to room temperature

Strain this through a muslin cloth and squeeze out all the juice. Discard the pulp

Transfer the juice to a pot and add the sugar. Cover and cook this on medium heat for 30 minutes till reduced to half

Remove the cover and cook on full flame for a further 15 minutes till thick and stringy

Add the lemon juice and food colour. cook for another 10 minutes

To test the jelly, add a tsp jelly on a cold plate. It should not spread and solidify in a few minutes

Transfer the jelly to sterilised jars and cool completely at room temperature

Serve with toast & butter
