Aug 02 2023 XML compression for A Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance become generally available

This feature was first introduced in SQL Server 2022, makes data storage more efficient and queries faster. XML compression uses a compression algorithm that significantly reduces the size of XML data, optimizing storage usage, reducing storage IO operations, and speeding up XML-related queries. One of the most significant advantages of this feature is its transparency. Users do not need to modify their existing queries or applications to utilize XML compression. The database engine automatically handles the compression and decompression processes, making it seamless and hassle-free
