UPC continues to back Jimmy Akena as party president amidst court ruling

The Uganda Peoples Congress insists that Jimmy Akena is still the party president until the time when the party will hold its next delegates conference in 2025. The Party’s Secretary General Fred Ebil says Akena was re-elected in 2020 and that a Court Judgement against his election has been overtaken by events. This follows a Supreme Court ruling on Friday this week which annulled the election of Jimmy Akena saying he has been illegally occupying the position of UPC party President since 2015.
