In this video, we take a look at photos of Einstein's office on the day that he died. Together with my friend and fellow YouTuber ‪@ParthGChannel‬, we've been trying to figure out the very last thing that was written on his blackboard. It took a lot of time and effort, but we think we have worked out what he was doing.

It seems that he was trying to rewrite his famous theory of general relativity in a new way, trying to simplify things in order to combine it with quantum mechanics. USually, GR is written in terms of metrics, but Einstein here was trying to rewrite it in terms of so-called tetrads. These are vectors that should be able to to the same job as the metric, but does it actually simplfy anything? Let's find out together here!

Huge thank you to Andrew Gow and Andrew Lundgren at the University of Portsmouth for all the help discussing what the board could mean!

Thanks to Einstein for the use of his board in this video.

Music in this video is Symphony No. 40 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Played and recorded by Columbia University Orchestra and published as a Public Domain.
