A cook named Harrison Odjegba Okene, from Nigeria miraculously survived for 60 hours, inside a tugboat called Jascon 4. The incident occurred on May 26 2013 when the boat capsized in seas while it was working on stabilizing an oil tanker near a Chevron platform in the Gulf of Guinea. This location is 32 kilometers (20 miles) away from the coastline.

The tugboat ended up resting at the bottom of the sea approximately 30 meters (98 feet) below the surface. Sadly eleven crew members lost their lives in this event. However despite being surrounded by darkness Okene managed to find his way into the engineers office which had air to keep him alive. The height of this room was 1.2 meters (3 feet and 11 inches). To survive he ingeniously created a platform using a mattress and other available materials to keep his body above water and minimize heat loss.

After three days had passed since the accident occurred African divers named Nicolaas van Heerden, Darryl Oosthuizen and Andre Erasmus discovered Okene during their investigation of the scene intending to recover bodies. To rescue him safely without causing decompression sickness due to being underwater for long they equipped Okene with a helmet before transferring him into a closed diving bell and bringing him back up to the surface. Unfortunately, Okene lost consciousness during this transfer process.
