Kings often employed astrologers and magicians to determine auspicious times for battles, ward off curses, or protect the kingdom with secret rites. There were even tales of royal magicians who could curse enemies or render soldiers invisible. The term Rāja Māyā, or "Royal Magic," was used to describe the mystical techniques employed to bolster the king’s authority and maintain cosmic order in the realm.
But were these magical feats real? From a modern scientific perspective, many of the phenomena described might be explained through psychology, coincidence, or natural causes. Yet, for the people of ancient India, magic was neither illusion nor deception—it was an intimate part of how they understood the world. Magic was the language through which the universe whispered its secrets. It was a method for seeking truth, healing, power, and inner peace.
