UPDATED CHEMICAL PEEL AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS: HOW TO CARE FOR A CHEMICAL PEEL

Hey, gorgeous! I know it has been awhile since I've updated my " Aftercare and Post Care" instruction video on chemical peels. My very detailed and longer chemical peel aftercare instruction video ( which I'll leave a link to below) get tons of questions so I thought I would UPDATE you with my current guidelines for most chemical peels that I offer to my clients. In this NEW video, I get right to the point and list the most important steps to take after a chemical peel so that you are informed of the most common mistakes I see people make after receiving a chemical peel. For instance, picking your skin off after a chemical peel is the first thing I mention because I have fixed so many clients who have picked their skin after doing a home chemical peel who end up with scarring or discoloration afterwards. I have seen the worst possible advice online about chemical peels and what to do after a chemical peel. I care about you and want you to be well informed with the right information so that you are safe, have a speedy recovery, and know how serious it is that you follow your aftercare instructions perfectly so that you not only great results but more importantly, that you don't cause any serious contraindications.

PLEASE make sure that you follow the instructions of YOUR SKINCARE PROVIDER or Doctor and do not listen to me. Your provider knows best. They know your skin and the chemical peel solution that they used so I think it's best to follow their specific post care chemical peel instructions so that you get the best results. This newly updated video is very straight forward and listed in order of what I think is important to follow after a peel.

Please follow the instruction below for most chemical peels, and please be very gentle and use good judgment in your self-care routine after your chemical peel.

Directions:
1. DO NOT PICK YOUR SKIN OFF! I don't care what anyone tells you. This is very dangerous and not okay. Picking ANY of your skin off can result in scarring, infection, pigmentation and discoloration. The white blood cell underneath the dead skin are designed to heal your skin and protect it from infection.

2. Please do no scrub your face with ANY abrasive scrub or cleaning brush trying to make the skin come off quicker. All you will do it irritate the skin, dry it out and ruin the results of the peel working on the deeper layer of the skin where most of the issue we want fixed are located.

3. Your chemical peel needs time to heal and it will heal quicker if you follow directions. I know it is not easy. Peeling is never fun and it often gets in the way of our busy lives. However, trying to heal your chemical peel quicker with some home remedy magic trick defeats the whole purpose of doing a chemical peel. Why would you spend money on a peel only to lessen its effect by trying to make the skin not peel as much? (Your skin will take about 4 to 7 days to completely peel depending on the strength of the peel or treatment you received. )

4. Gently cleanse your face twice a day with a gentle non-exfoliating cleanser or with jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil. Doing so will help the top layer of your skin stay slightly moist and permeable so that the skin doesn't tear, stretch or scar.

5. Use SPF 30 or higher consistently throughout the day. Reapply, reapply and reapply. Doing so will limit your skin from burning in the sun (even when it’s cloudy out or when sitting by a window) and will minimize the chances of more sun damage and discoloration.

6. Please avoid using any products that contain Retinol, AHA, Glycolic, Retin-A or any acne medication until your skin is finished peeling (usually 7 days and possibly longer).

7. Please keep your skin well hydrated by drinking at least three 8-ounce glasses of water per day, and moisturizing when needed. Your skin should never be so dry that it is cracking, or sore.

8. Please refrain from waxing, tanning, or using sunbeds for three weeks. What the hell are you still doing in a tanning bed!? Sorry couldn't help it.

9. Avoid working out and sweating for at least 24 hours and up to 48 hours for deeper peels.

10. If your skin becomes itchy at any time, you may use ice cubes directly on the skin or do an oatmeal mask to calm down irritation. Also, Bio oil or 1% hydrocortisone ( only if you are okay with using a steroid, ask your Dr first if you are concerned) cream (any brand).
