In this video I spend an afternoon cutting out and replacing the last major rust spot on the r32 front clip! The skyline hasn’t gotten much love in the last few months partially because the shop has been a pit. Now that it’s clean I’m happy to be back to work on my favorite car. I used some fresh rust treatment that the local paint shop suggested to use and it seemed to work well. I did some practice plug welds on some spare sheet metal I had before welding the new piece on and was very happy with the results. Unfortunately when I went to do the plug welds on the clip I was a bit disappointed, I think I may have bummed the wire feed while moving the welder.. I also have a growing suspicion that the weld through primer I’ve been using has been causing issues but I’ll have to test some more. I also decided to use the tig on the clip for the first time and although the welds weren’t that great, it was much nicer to grind down once I was done. I was pretty stoked with the final product.
