Tiki Pop: This Book Is A Steal! - A Moment of Tiki episode 75

If you already have Sven Kirsten's "Tiki Pop" in your library, you know what an amazing bargain this book is. If you don't, read on to learn why you should correct this oversight posthaste!

Kirsten's "The Book of Tiki," published in 2000 by Taschen, arguably served as the catalyst to jump start the new tiki renaissance we are enjoying to this day. Alas, "The Book of Tiki," out of print for well more than a decade, commands prices of $200 or more on the used market these days. What's a newcomer to the tiki subculture to do, other than mortgage a kidney? Well, what if I told you that Sven had another book published by Taschen that is every bit as lush and impressive, and at 600-plus pages, more than twice the length of "The Book of Tiki"? And what if I told you that book was available to order now for $16? (I know I said the list price is $25 in the video, but I just checked and that giant South American river has it listed for $16 now!). This book is real and its name is "Tiki Pop." The original, large-format version of "Tiki Pop" came out in 2014 for the princely sum of $60, but once that fell out of print Taschen published this compact version in 2020, which, in my humble opinion, is by far the greatest bargain in tiki books that has ever existed. This book contains more than 600 pages of lush photography--many in full color--along with in-depth research of the tiki phenomenon throughout history. It is an outright steal at $25 and the current online price of $16 is absolutely insane. Not tikiphile's library should be without it. There's no excuse not to get it now, because once it goes out of print as it invariably will, you'll be kicking yourself for not grabbing it while you had the chance.
